"Microsoft support" scammer caught

This might be a little duplicative of another subforum here ... but it can be used as a place to post "sightings" of a scam ... without posting a defense or solution.
(If too redundant, the topic can be deleted)

One of the "Microsoft Support" scammers was caught ... received a suspended sentence and a fine.
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2 ... e-and-fine

I wonder if this will turn into one of those "he can't afford the fine, so we will drop it" legal farces?

Probably. If it was one of the "common folk", they'd be thrown in jail, or assets sold. You're likely right about the "slap on the wrist".

Good to hear! My sister went through this just two days ago. She sadly fell for the scam and "microsoft" was on her computer for close to an hour and a half. She got very nervous and decided to call me.

After two hours of my time working remotely with her, she's back up and secure. He put in proxies, malware, went through her email, documents added some "clean-up" utilities to make the machine run better and modified the system registry. He also charged her $500 for the privilege! All her credit cards have been turned off and I insisted that every password of hers, be changed which has been done. She feels much happier and MUCH wiser now!

Sis called this very afternoon and told me "Sam" is now calling her non stop from 323-489-7474 http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-323-489-7474 I advised her to install Mr. Number on her android phone and knock Sam out, the game for her, is over.

I told her to text me the number. Maybe this weekend I will set up a computer with video screen capture and audio then call "Sam" so he can finish the job! The machine I plan on using will already be infected with a remote proxy - I will TRY and reverse the login while he's busy fooling around with this machine (it has no valuable data nor any software that can be compromised) and see if I can access his computer! :tngraz:

If successful I will post the video on youtube for all to watch and everyone will get to hear my mellifluous voice during the commentary.

I was reading some of these posts today, and its sounding like some of them have hacked info. The gal reports that they told her what she had for a computer, where she lives etc. This is *not* good!

This just came to mind while I was reading a new thread about these scams. If you really want to throw them off when they call we can say that we use OStrich and that we created it.

LOL! :-D Nice Mid! Well, they called last week I think it was here, asked for Wayne.. which is my DH. And I asked who's calling. And the guy said, this is about your computer. And I said goodbye, I already know about the scam thanks. "click" Walked into the living room and congratulated the DH on getting his first microscam call!

I guess I should have told him he doesn't own a computer and doesn't even know how to turn it on. That I own the computer and am not stew-pid! :evilyes: :evilyes: :greentooth:

There are probably a whole bunch of ways to mess with this clowns in the hopes of leaving them speechless.
