Ah hah... that may be it!

One of the places I searched to see if I could find any answers did mention the win 7 settings ...

Here:

http://superuser.com/questions/434159/v ... ired-is-ok

See if that helps, BigA. It should still be able to work with Win 7 though ...

Long story short the girl from linksys support says that I need a firmware upgrade and there isn't one for this router because it is 6 years old. So she wants to sell me the "top of the line" router at a discounted price of 79.99. Got all flustered when i said i would think about it and then call back. I am just going to go out and get a new one and be done with it. Probably not a linksys though. Thanks for trying to help.

My linksys is also quite old. Model WRT-54G V8. It is using firmware version 8.00.8
Works fine on XP and Windows 7
Communicates well with my other wireless devices

This might be helpful:

If you have a "model V8", but a firmware version older than 8.00.8, and if lynksys does not have a firmware download for you, contact me by PM.

BigA, go with Netgear-that is what mine is at my place. The page you go to is easy to understand (at least for changing stuff). Mine's the N600-though you want something that will work for you-my best friend helped me choose mine because I don't know much about the technology and what everything means and I'm happy with it. (Here's what it looks like: http://www.staples.com/NETGEAR-N600-Dua ... uct_886778 )

Ok, thanks CD my local staples has it and they will beat Amazon by 10% to boot so I can't go wrong.

Funny Best buy wants $129 and no price match. Oh well their loss.

If I can't get this one working after what Slim has sent me then out in the trash it goes.

I was going to say Netgear also! All I had to do was hook it up, everything works off it ok. I got the middle model though since its a two story house. But Miranda has a Ipad type device, her laptop upstairs, my Blue ray is wifi updates. Didn't have to do anything short of hook it up.

BigA, sounds like you did right after CD's (and Tami's  ) suggestions ... a short while ago on the dslreports forum I read that Belkin bought out the Linksys routers :shifty: :wideye: :|

Here's the link, just in case interested:

Well here is the interesting thing, she kept me on the line for quite a while before springing on me that there was no upgrade. Next thing she wants to sell me a new router and give me a great price. She said it listed for $89.99 but she would give it to me for $79.99 plus free 2 day shipping. Then she got upset and didn't want to give me the ticket number when I told her I wanted to think it over (price shop). She finally gave me the ticket number and I told her adios. The router she quoted me on sells for $57.00 on Amazon, and Best Buy will price match that, Staples will price match less 10%. So I would have really been taken if I had bought it right then and there.
I had a Belkin USB hub once that stopped working when I switched to W 7. Took me over a month with CSRs sending me replacements to find out the hub would not work at all with W7. They did give me all my money back though, but I am not so sure about Belkin anymore either. If CD says to try this because it works good for her then I will.

And if it doesn't work, I know who to yell at (wink, wink)

When I got my netgear, there was 3 models, Think I gave 80 for it on sale @ Best Buy. I've had it 3 years now, no problems. But mine is hooked to sat to the main computer. Everything else is run off the wifi. My netbook is win 7, Miranda's laptop is 8.1
